Vladimir Putin does not seem to be happy that nations around the globe are uniting to support Ukraine as Russia’s invasion of the country continues. Now, the United States has received a warning, demanding that aid to Ukraine be ceased. If not, the missive warns, the consequences could be “unpredictable.”

The Washington Post reports that the warning came in the form of an formal diplomatic note from Moscow, and addressed the increased support in the form of military defense systems and weaponry that are being provided to Ukraine by NATO and the United States. It declared that to continue to do so would be “adding fuel” to the conflict, and result in “unpredictable consequences.” This follows the approval of new weapon systems to Ukraine, the first shipment of which is expected to arrive in days.
State Department Spokesman Ned Price subsequently appeared on CNN to discuss the matter, and indicated that, rather than conceding to Russia’s demands, the intention of the United States is to continue to help Ukraine in ways that can hopefully shorten the conflict, though he acknowledged that Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned that it could go on past the end of the year.

While this particular diplomatic note is new, Russia’s threats are not. Reuters reported last month that the nation had threatened to “put all of our brash enemies in their place,” and as reported yesterday, there has also been a threat of nuclear war if Sweden and Finland join NATO.
