Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, often takes the conservative side of the argument during his CNN appearances. He has frequently defended the President, including a February spot where he complimented Trump for “lying consistently.”
The President’s recent comments that he would like to hold the next G-7 conference at one of his properties, though, went too far for the former senator. During an appearance on Anderson Cooper 360, Santorum said, “Hell, no”, Trump should not pitch to hold the conference at his Doral, Florida hotel.
Gues host John Berman asked the pundit if it was appropriate for Trump to offer up his property for the conference. “Hell no,” Santorum replied. “He doesn’t do himself any good by doing things like this. That’s what he does. I think that’s just who he is. It’s inappropriate. He shouldn’t do it.”
Not only is the President taking heat for offering up the Doral resort, he is also defending the hotel’s cleanliness. Following Trump’s comments, a 2017 Miami Herald story resurfaced about a previous guest suing the hotel after he was bitten by bedbugs.
A furious Trump was quick to respond to the beg bug story. No only did he claim the story he was untrue, he blamed the content of the piece on Radical Democrats. He wrote, “No bedbugs at Doral. The Radical Left Democrats, upon hearing that the perfectly located (for the next G-7) Doral National MIAMI was under consideration for the next G-7, spread that false and nasty rumor. Not nice!”
