[WATCH] Retiring Republican Rep Says Jan 6th Committee Hearings Are ‘Changing Some GOP Minds’ About Trump

Donald Trump’s hold on the GOP is still in effect, but it isn’t as strong as it was when he was still in office. It’s clear he still has plenty of support from the fringe faction of the Republican Party and most likely always will no matter what the truth may be.

But the bombshell revelations heard by the millions of Americans who have tuned in for the first half of the six scheduled January 6th Committee televised hearings have now caused some within the party to start questioning their continued loyalty to the captain of a rapidly sinking ship, according to an outgoing GOP member of the House.

WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 06: Pro-Trump protesters gather in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 in Washington, DC. Trump supporters gathered in the nation’s capital to protest the ratification of President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory over President Trump in the 2020 election. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) was one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump in 2021, and has often been an outspoken critic of his party while also seeing it pragmatically.

Upton has said Trump would be “hard to stop” in the 2024 election, if he actually runs. However, Upton also believes that he just doesn’t have the same support he once had, saying he thinks the January 6th hearings have “had an impact on voters across the country” as well as members of the GOP.

Upton had plenty to say about his colleagues who could have, but didn’t, speak out about January 6th or support the effort to hold Trump accountable by impeaching him a second time. He also knows they’re not all as enthusiastic about Trump being the face of the GOP as they once were. Watch his full conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash, below.
