[WATCH] Republicans Furious With Trump For Pocketing Funds Raised for GA Runoffs
Now that Donald Trump is on his way out, Republicans are scrambling to hold on to their Senate majority at all costs, even if it means going against Trump and creating division within their party. While the remaining Trump loyalists like Lindsey Graham are still clinging to his pant legs in the hopes of keeping him from exposing whatever it is he has on them, others are finally speaking out about Trump as the detriment he is to their future.
With Raphael Warnock taking the lead in the polls over Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue unwilling to debate Jon Ossoff yet trying to hold to the barely perceptive lead he has over his challenger (Ossoff is trailing Perdue in the polls by .04%), the GOP is facing a tough vote in the Georgia Senate Runoffs on January 5th. Early voting numbers have topped one million ballots, and the disastrous debate showings for both GOP candidates have them running scared, especially with so many Black voters and other voters of color showing up at the polls.
Trump’s lame duck period has been the top talking point for weeks now, and the panel on Morning Joe opined that Trump is losing more support from his party by the day, especially since he’s been unwilling to campaign for Perdue and Loeffler in Georgia. His one trip there earlier this month only served as a sad coda for his lone term, as he used the rallies to complain about the election and Joe Biden instead of pumping up the two Senate candidates.
And it all comes down to money, because that’s basically all Trump cares about. After a discussion on current Congressional negotiations for COVID-19 relief, contributor Kasie Hunt turned to Trump’s fundraising efforts. “The money that Republicans are gathering, that President Trump is raising.” Hunt began. “Republicans on the Hill, they’re pissed off because they are taking that money and they are saying, ‘Oh, you have to help us win these elections in Georgia to win the Senate majority.’ The Trump team is taking that money and doing things for themselves with it.”
