WATCH: Rand Paul Says Part of Trump Impeachment Defense Will be Blaming Violence on Black Lawmakers Like Cory Booker and Maxine Waters
Donald Trump will be facing an impeachment trial in the coming weeks. The defense part of the case will be difficult. The ex-president’s first legal team left over arguments over strategy. Butch Bowers and his team wanted to argue over the constitutionality of the case. Trump, according to reports, wanted to continue to claim that he won the election.
Now on legal team two, Trump doesn’t have much of a case that he incited violence on the capitol. Rand Paul says that Trump will instead rely on a common trope. The Kentucky senator predicts that the ex-president will blame the violence on black lawmakers like Cory Booker and Maxine Waters.
Paul made the comments while speaking with Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday. He told the host:
“I think you’re going to see the Trump defense play video of Rep. Maxine Waters telling crowds to mob Trump administration officials and attack them. They’ll probably show clips of Cory Booker saying get up in their face of these congresspeople. You’ll probably see comments from Rep. Omar celebrating the violence that happened to me when I had six ribs broken and part of a lung removed.”
Of course, Trump won’t necessarily be telling the truth about these lawmakers. That, though, won’t be anything new for a former president who based his campaign on racial animus.
