On Wednesday, President Joe Biden signed an executive order that will limit asylum claims until the situation becomes more manageable. The President and Democrats had reached an agreement with Republicans on the border earlier this year, but GOP Senators backtracked after Donald Trump forced them to abandon the deal.
While signing the order, Biden noted that the GOP's refusal to work on the issue had forced his hand. Jen Psaki, who served as the president's press secretary, has a pretty good idea of how the President operates. During a Wednesday MSNBC spot on Morning Joe, she explained Biden's rationale.
She began by noting that this will be a big Republican talking point during election season, saying, "This is one of the biggest vulnerabilities and regardless of who’s mad about the details of what’s in here and what isn’t in here, it’s a political vulnerability for the president and his campaign."
The current MSNBC host also explained how this move blunts one of Donald Trump's weapons before he really gets going on the campaign trail, saying, "They knew they would have to do something like an executive order before the election politically as well, and that’s what we’re seeing play out,"
