[WATCH] President Biden Lashes Out at Trump For Lack of Action on January 6th

While President Joe Biden doesn’t spend a whole lot of time thinking about his predecessor, whom he dubbed “The Former Guy” soon after his inauguration, he took some time to deliver some of the harshest criticisms of Donald Trump that we’ve heard from him since he took office.

The President said on Monday that Trump “lacked the courage to act” on January 6th as his supporters overran the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the Electoral College votes.

President Biden, who has continued working in isolation since his positive COVID-19 diagnosis, made the comments in a virtual address to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. His remarks came just days after the last public hearing of the summer by the House select committee investigating the attack. “For three hours, the defeated former president of the United States watched it all happen as he sat in the comfort of the private dining room next to the Oval Office,” President Biden said. “While he was doing that, brave law enforcement officers are subjected to the medieval hell for three hours.”

The President credited the police for their role in ending the riot and implied that Trump supporters cannot claim to be pro-police but support the Capitol rioters. “You saw what happened,” President Biden said. “The Capitol Police, the D.C. Metropolitan Police, and other law enforcement agencies were attacked and assaulted before our very eyes — speared, sprayed, stomped on, brutalized. And lives were lost.”

“You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-cop,” President Biden said. “You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-democracy. You can’t be pro-insurrection and pro-American.”
