WATCH: President Biden Calls Out Media, Politics, For Radicalizing Buffalo Shooter

President Joe Biden made a trip to Buffalo to visit with grieving families following another mass shooting. Though the investigation continues, the shooter appears to have been motivated by racism, and specifically by fear of a right-wing ideology that believes minority groups will “replace” power-holding majority groups.

Conservative media and politicians have pushed ‘replacement theory,’ telling their audiences to be afraid that white Americans will become a minority if they don’t act. This is used in anti-immigrant rhetoric, and in racism against minority or historically disenfranchised ethnicities within America, to promote the continued disenfranchisement and discrimination.

Biden called it out without holding back.

“What happened here is simple and straightforward terrorism. Domestic terrorism. Violence inflicted in the service of hate and vicious thirst for power, that defines one group of people as being inherently inferior to any other group. Hate, that through the media, and politics, the internet, has radicalized angry, alienated, lost, and isolated individuals into falsely believing that they will be replaced. That’s the word, replaced, by the ‘other.’ By people who don’t look like them, and are therefore, in the perverse ideology that they possess and are being fed, lesser beings.”

According to CNN Payton Gendron, who has been arrested for the shooting, revealed in social media posts that he selected the specific location for the mass murder based on it having the highest percentage of Black population near his own home, and visited multiple times to assess when the store was busiest.
