[WATCH] Pennsylvania GOP Rep Attended His Gay Son’s Wedding 3 Days After Voting Against Codifying Gay Marriage

Republican hypocrisy has no bottom.
Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) was fine to join his party by voting against protecting gay marriage from any uptight SCOTUS majorities taking that right away along with abortion, which isn’t really a surprise considering he’s a Pennsylvania Republican and their state GOP put up a Qrazy Fake Christian Antisemitic election-denying January 6th insurrectionist. But what makes Glenn Thompson a special kind of MAGA terrible is that just three days after refusing to acknowledge the rights of all Americans, including LGBTQ Americans, to marry whomever they love, Glenn watched his own gay son get married, and even made an emotional speech at the reception celebrating the union. And with a completely straight face, you should pardon the expression.
Thompson was one of 157 House Republicans who voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which acts as a failsafe in case the Supreme Court reverses itself on marriage equality — something LGBTQ activists fear is a very real possibility following the court’s overturning of abortion protections. His disassociative behavior was first reported by Gawker and later confirmed to NBC News by Thompson’s legally married (for now) gay son (mazel, by the way!).

Should the Supreme Court overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 case that enshrined marriage equality nationwide, individual states would once again have the power to determine whether or not to refuse marriage licenses to two people of the same sex. The bill Thompson voted against would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 and ensure that federal benefits and protections remain in place for couples like the lawmaker’s son, regardless of their state of residence.

I use the word hypocritical a lot when it comes to the GOP, but it's exactly because of things like this.
They are so predictable.

In his speech at the wedding, he celebrated the new Mr and Mr (whose names have been withheld by the press, as they are private citizens) by saying he and his wife felt “blessed” they felt to welcome their new son-in-law into the fold. Thompson said, “any parent hopes and prays that their child stays healthy, finds their way, and ultimately finds “that one true love so that they have the opportunity to experience that: someone to grow old with.” But then still voted against making sure his son’s brand-new marriage would remain private and none of the government’s concern and then attended his son’s wedding like it was no big.

Thompson’s press secretary Maddison Stone (who seems like a real piece of work) told local paper The Centre Daily Times the Respect for Marriage bill was a “stunt” by Democrats, despite 47 Republicans breaking with Thompson and the rest of the party to vote in favor of it. “This bill was nothing more than an election-year messaging stunt for Democrats in Congress who have failed to address historic inflation and out-of-control prices at gas pumps and grocery stores,” Stone said. Which of course has nothing to do with her boss voting against his son’s civil rights.
