WATCH: NY Times’ Maggie Haberman Has a Theory as To Why Conservative Media Went After Kamala Harris This Weekend

Donald Trump spent almost every weekend during his time at the White House either golfing or down at his resort in Mar-a-Lago. Last year on Memorial Day, when the country was in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump was playing golf.

Republican media, though, seems to have forgotten all about that this weekend. Because the pundits at Fox News decided to dedicate much of their weekend programming to blasting Kamala Harris for wishing Americans a good long weekend. During an appearance on CNN this morning, the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman said that the attack had very little to do with Harris’ words.

Brianna Keilar, the host of New Day, asked the journalist, “that’s a bad tweet, because it doesn’t talk about why there is this long weekend, but at the same time, Fox went crazy with this, Maggie.”

Haberman responded by saying that she thought it was a strange tweet. She also explained that the message came days before Memorial Day. She continued, “I think you have seen Fox News and Republicans chasing shiny objects because whatever efforts they’re trying to do to get at and lower the poll numbers at the Biden White House is not working. So something like this seems like chum in the water for their audiences.”

The New York Times writer concluded, “it’s hard to treat this as a serious reaction.” Watch a video of the comments below, courtesy of CNN:
