WATCH: New CNN Morning Anchor Blisters Fox Over Chyrons
Brianna Keilar made quite the splash during her Monday debut as co-anchor of CNN’s “New Day.” Keilar delivered a blistering commentary on the ever more-deranged on-screen text – chyrons – that Fox uses to amplify its right-wing messaging. Her three-and-a-half minute segment showcased Fox’s exaggerations and outright lies.
“Fox in the era of Joe Biden is a carousel of conspiracy theories and fear-mongering,” she began. “So really what I’m saying is not much has changed. But those chyrons that you see at the bottom of the screen are getting noticeably more creative.”
“Fox uses them to push their conspiracy theories that Biden is essentially senile,” Keilar said as a lead-in to a clip of Sean Hannity offering his nasty, uniformed opinion about President Joe Biden’s mental acuity. “Other Fox banners imply that Biden basically belongs in a home, and one of their main experts literally called in from his retirement home in Florida. Another is this guy, the infamous Fox doc they have on to give a quote ‘virtual medical examination’ then reaching the evidence-free conclusion Biden is off his rocker, pushes the theory he is the puppet of a deep state.”
Keilar also blasted Laura Ingraham for the absurd graphic of Biden and the nation’s leading health officials in straight jackets in a padded room under the banner of “Shutting Down the COVID Crazies.” “Fox reliably provides the public disservice of pandemic disinformation, and sometimes it uses pictures,” said Keilar. “One year into the pandemic, despite undeniable evidence that masks work, Fox’s chief science officer, Mr. (Tucker) Carlson suggests they’re a national security risk. When the new president marked one year of grief and loss, Fox got impatient, telling viewers that Biden’s taking too long, saying how dare the president not wrap up before the power hour cockamamie commentary.”
She concluded by declaring most clear-thinking people understand: “Fox is not news, not matter what it calls itself.”
