WATCH: MSNBC”s Mehdi Hasan Explains Why Cheney, Romney, Kinzinger Aren’t Friends to Democrats

Liberals are always happy to give credit to Republicans who are willing to cross party lines and do the right thing. An Democrats were especially happy with those GOP lawmakers who were willing to stand up to Donald Trump.

At the same time, however, those Republicans often vote against the things the really matter. During a Wednesday night broadcast, MSNBC’s Medhi Hasan tore into Adam Kinzinger, Mitt Romney and Liz Cheney.

Hasan began, “Last night, the House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Enhancement Act, which looks to strengthen the 1965 voting rights act and protect minority voters. Parts of the VRA were, of course, gutted by our right-wing Supreme Court. The bill passed 219-212 on strict party lines. Not a single House Republican voted for it. Not one, not Adam Kinzinger, not Liz Cheney.”

The host continued, “in the Senate, the only Republican who said they’ll support it is Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Everyone’s favorite Republican, Utah senator Mitt Romney, says he’s undecided on it. And remember, he already voted against the For the People Act.”

Hasan concluded, “which is a reminder of two things. Number one, Democratic senator Joe Manchin needs his head examined when he talks about the need to protect our voting rights in a bi-partisan way. And number two, they may have stood up to Donald Trump, but when it comes to voting rights, perhaps the most crucial issue of our time, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger and Mitt Romney are not your friends.”
