Another influential member of the Republican Party has stepped up to put country over party to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris over Donald Trump just one week before Election Day, potentially delivering a win for the Democrats in a key battleground state.
Gary Reed, the former executive director of the Michigan Republican Party, said he’ll vote for Vice President Harris for President because “Trump and his allies have done grave damage to the Republican Party ― both in Michigan and nationally.”
Reed wrote a Letter to the Editor of the Lansing City Pulse, explaining his choice by criticizing her opponent and his running mate. "Donald Trump and JD Vance don’t advocate for the values of the Republican Party I once knew," Reed writes. "Rather than promoting trade with the rest of the world, they embrace protectionism and across-the-board tariffs that will make working families pay more for everyday goods. Harris is focused on targeted, strategic tariffs."
"Trump promised an auto manufacturing boom and failed to deliver," Reed's letter continues. "Factories closed under Trump; auto factories are being built under Harris."
Reed, who joins a list of hundreds of other Republicans supporting VP Harris, emphasizes the danger Trump presents to the country if he were to get back into the White House. "Trump and his allies have done grave damage to the Republican Party — both in Michigan and nationally," Reed concludes. "If we ever want our Republican Party back, it has to start with Donald Trump losing on Nov. 5. That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris."
