WATCH: Mitch McConnell Says “No Confusion” About Vladimir Putin; “He’s A Thug”

Donald Trump and some of his supporters, including a few media figures, have been praising Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, but the Leader of the Senate Republicans wants to be very clear that Putin is not a hero, but a “thug.”

In recent weeks we’ve seen a (failed) Republican Senate nominee state how she feels more aligned with Putin’s “Christian values” than with Joe Biden. We’ve watched right-wing news commentator Tucker Carlson heap praise on the dictator, so much so that he was featured on Russia propaganda networks. We’ve even seen it from the former President, Donald Trump.

Mitch McConnell has broken with Trump and the Trumpublican sect once again, and appeared on Fox News, where part of his message was to blame President Biden and the trouble-fraught withdrawal from Afghanistan. He also suggested that in the long run this attack would benefit NATO, by bringing more countries together — not a very comfortable take while people are facing bombs and death.

However, it was what McConnell had to say about Vladimir Putin as a person that diverges from some recent right-wing views.

“There should be no confusion about Vladimir Putin. There has been some confusion lately. He is a thug. He is a killer.” He has been on a rampage and this will not end well for him.”

McConnell closed on that threat, but when pressed to answer if Putin has “changed,” he affirmed, “I think he’s been this all along.”

In other words, yes, even when Donald Trump was in office and boasting of his interactions with Putin.
