(WATCH) Minneapolis Protestors Face Tear Gas And Rubber Bullets In Protest Over George Floyd Killing
The death of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, at the has of four Minnesota police officers led to a violent clash between cops and protesters. When a video showing officers kneeling on the body of George Floyd went viral it sparked outrage. Floyd can be heard pleading with officers that he could not breathe. Floyd died, as a result. The backlash was immediate and it did not take long for protests to erupt.

The four police officers involved in Floyd’s death have been fired from the Minneapolis Police Department. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey praised the firing of the officers as the right move. He also issued an apology to the black community and the family of George Floyd. He said, “being black in America should not be a death sentence.” He added, “When you hear someone calling for help you’re supposed to help. This officer failed in the most basic, human sense.”
Protestors descended onto the scene of Floyd’s death by the thousands. They chanted “I can’t breathe” which is what Floyd told the police before he died. Police used what seemed to be mace against demonstrators. It also appears that police used tear gas and rubber bullets while demonstrators used water bottles and other objects to destroy police property.

What is really telling for many Americans is the difference in response to mostly black protestors versus the response to armed anti lockdown protestors. Earlier in May white protestors stormed the Michigan State Capital with guns. The gunmen were protesting lockdown orders. Police employed no violence against these men. This has highlighted in the minds of many how police treat black people differently from white people.
Only time will tell if justice will be gotten for George Floyd.
