In the run-up to the 2016 election, Donald Trump held raucous and boisterous rallies across the nation. The crowds at these gatherings would often chant “lock her up” in reference to Hillary Clinton or yell about Mexico paying for a border wall. Some of his rallies even featured “send her back” chants in reference to immigrant Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
The Minnesota congresswoman, who is supporting Bernie Sanders for the 2020 nomination, was at a Minneapolis Sanders event on Sunday night. During the rally, some of the crowd broke out into a “lock him up” chant in reference to Donald Trump.

Omar explained why she endorsing Sanders, “For a long time Bernie was underestimated. His ideals weren’t taken seriously by the establishment because he refused to fall in line and conform to the pressures in Washington. In the sea of corruption, he continuously has stood for justice and never bowed down to special interests. That’s the resolve we need in a president.”
The Vermont senator defended Rep. Omar, who has been a popular target of conservatives. “They thrive on division,” he said. “They thrive on hatred. They thrive on pitting people against one another who come from different places or who worship God differently.”
Sanders closed his remarks by saying, “People say that Ilhan and I make an odd political couple. But in fact, there is really nothing odd about it at all. Ilhan and I share a common link as the descendants of families who fled violence and poverty, and who came to this country as immigrants.”
