WATCH: Matt Gaetz Says Trump Getting COVID Proves Social Distancing Doesn’t Work
Since the very start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Donald Trump has admittedly, “played it down.” But now that the president is being treated for the illness in Walter Reed Hospital, Conservatives are trying to spin the story.
Georgia senator Kelly Loeffler attempted to blame China for the president’s illness. DeAnna Lorraine wondered why only Conservatives were catching the virus and not Liberals. and during an appearance on Fox News, Matt Gaetz said that Trump’s illness is proof that social distancing doesn’t work.
The Florida congressman made the comments during Tucker Carlon’s Friday night show. He told the host, “What I can tell you is if this virus can get into the Oval, into the body of the president, there is no place where it could not possibly infect one of our fellow Americans.”
Gaetz continued, “And that’s why it’s so important to continue executing on President Trump’s strategy to allow our country to open up, but then to ensure we protect the vulnerable because there is no lockdown that can be a panacea to save everyone from everything — and this is proof-positive that’s the case.”
Not surprisingly, Carlson agreed with the congressman. “It’s such a smart point,” he responded. “I mean, if the president can get this virus, then it tells you a lot about our ability to protect ourselves from it.”
