WATCH: Marjorie Taylor Greene Complains About Muslims Accessing Public Library
Marjorie Taylor Greene has expressed before that she supports Muslims in practicing their religion and carrying out their lives in America, but that anyone “that believes in Sharia law does not belong in our government.” A newly surfaced clip proves the lie in her claim that she supports freedom of religion. In it, she expresses her frustration that a woman in a hijab is merely existing in public, visiting a public library.
The clip below comes from a longer video in which Greene spends 90 minutes at Alpharetta Branch Library in Georgia complaining about a Drag Queen Story Hour event in April 2019. This short moment may have been missed by many in the longer anti-LGBTQ attack, but she took several seconds out to also whine about a hijabi existing in public. “I want to show you something,” Greene says. Redirecting the camera to show a woman in hijab minding her own business and walking past, she declares, “Our library is full of that.”

It’s a moment reminiscent of another of Greene’s bigoted anti-Muslim rants, below, in which she opens by lauding the freedom of religion in America, shifts to declaring that Muslims shouldn’t be in office, before making it all the way to “They should stay in their countries and make their countries great again.”
Partial transcript below edited for length and clarity.
“We have freedom of religion in this country that protects anyone to have you know have any kind of religion that they want, and that’s great…They should stay in their countries and make their countries great again. Right? Leave our country alone. Leave it alone…You stay over there in the middle east. You stay there and you go to Mecca and do all your things, and you know what? You can have a whole bunch of wives or goats or sheep or whatever you want. You stay over there.”
According to Pew Research‘s Fact Tank, for around 3.5 million Muslims, America is their country. According to the U.S. Constitution, they are free to exercise the same rights — including running for Congress and visiting libraries — as Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the religions she prefers.
