WATCH: MAGA Legislator Distorts Time To Credit Trump For Nabbing Osama Bin Laden

Timelines can be difficult. This is especially true for those suffering from such an extreme partisan bias that they refuse to acknowledge that both successes and failures, both horrors and triumphs happen under the leadership of virtually any president.

A new example of this surfaced at Trump’s Saturday night rally, when MAGA Representative Lisa McClain (R-MI) stepped on stage to tout her re-election campaign, and all of the successes she attributes to Donald Trump. This includes peace treaties and the military removal of Qasem Soleimani and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi — but according to McClain, it also includes the capture of Osama Bin Laden.
Fact Check: At the Trump rally in Michigan, Republican House Representative Lisa McClain falsely claimed Osama bin Laden was caught by Trump.
No, Lisa, Osama bin Laden was caught in 2011 under the Obama administration. pic.twitter.com/5LSc9ozfms

The obvious flaw in this, of course, is that Bin Laden was killed, not captured, and it took place in 2011, during Barack Obama’s presidency, not during Trump’s. The History page on the raid documents the president’s response:
During the raid, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, five people, including bin Laden and one of his adult sons, were killed by U.S. gunfire…President Barack Obama, who monitored the raid in real time via footage shot by a drone flying high above Abbottabad, made a televised address from the White House, announcing bin Laden’s death. “Justice has been done,” the president said.
Notably, the more common way that conservatives distort time with regard to Barack Obama and Osama Bin Laden is to blame the former president for failing to prevent the 9/11 attacks — apparently forgetting that when they took place, George W. Bush was still in office. See the Daily Show clip below for examples:
One key difference though — those folks aren’t sitting Representatives with legislative power.
