WATCH: Louie Gohmert Complains That Republicans Can’t Get Away With Lying To Congress

Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is really upset on behalf of Peter Navarro — so upset that he responded by publicly complaining that Republicans face legal consequences for lying to Congress and the FBI.

Peter Navarro isn’t having a great week, to be honest. He’s been hit with an indictment for his refusal to comply with a Congressional subpoena, and he’s also been subpoenaed by the Justice Department.

Louie Gohmert seems to be really, really, worried about the possibility that Navarro could be required to tell the truth under oath — because lying to the FBI or Congress is a crime. However, Gohmert doesn’t seem to mind putting it plainly: he’s specifically upset that Republicans can be punished for these crimes.

“If you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you. They’re gonna bury you. They’re gonna put you in the D.C. jail.”

He quickly tries to draw a comparison, pointing out that Michael Sussman, an attorney for Hillary Clinton, was acquitted on charges of lying to the FBI.

“The jury, that had a bunch of Hillary Clinton lovers on it, donors even, they said, ‘Look, uh, you know, he’s a Democrat and of course they’re gonna lie. Everybody lies.'”

Of course, that was not the jury decision in the Sussman case. The actual decision was that the prosecutor failed to bring sufficient evidence proving a lie, because the FBI agent who claimed that Sussman told him he was not working for a client couldn’t remember other details of the conversation and contradicted himself on various points.
