WATCH: Lindsey Graham Ludicrously Argues That If Trump Could Be Impeached Post Presidency, We Can Also Impeach George Washington for Owning Slaves
Donald Trump didn’t have much to worry about during his first impeachment trial. He was well protected by his party and only one GOP lawmaker, Mitt Romney, voted to convict him. No House Republicans voted to impeach him.
The President’s second impeachment trial is already much different. 10 Republican Congresspeople voted to impeach Trump on Wednesday. It also looks like there is a chance that the President could be convicted in the coming weeks.
Fox News has immediately moved to paint the impeachment as a move to spite Trump rather than to punish him for hi
s actions. And Trump’s top lap dog, Lindsey Graham, appeared on Sean Hannity’s show last night to argue against convicting the 45th President.
The South Carolina senator began by telling Hannity, “Well play this out. We impeached the President today without any evidence. It’s just sheer hatred. If this becomes the norm, be careful what you wish for today. Under this theory, the radical left, if you could impeach a President after they leave office, why don’t we impeach George Washington. Where does this stop?”
Graham later ended his rant with a threat masked as advice, “We should reject post-presidential impeachments because it will destroy the country and it will incite violence. If you want to end the violence, end impeachment.”
