WATCH: Lindsey Graham is Worried Trump/McConnell Feud Will Doom Republicans in 2022
In 2022, Republicans will get a chance to retake the House and Senate. But the party is in disarray right now. A number of GOP senators have already announced that they will retire rather than seek reelection. And then there is the divide in the party between those who support Donald Trump and those who don’t.
Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump are currently engaged in a feud that could tear the party apart. With the country being so polarized, losing even just a few voters could spell doom for Republicans. Lindsey Graham addressed his concerns over the McConnell/Trump spat on Sean Hannity’s Tuesday night show.
Hannity and Graham both decided to blame McConnell for the feud rather than Trump. Graham told the host:
“I’m more worried about 2022 than I’ve ever been. I don’t want to eat our own. President Trump Trump is the most consequential Republican in the party. If Mitch McConnell doesn’t understand that, he’s missing a lot… We need to knock this off. Kevin McCarthy is the leader of the house Republicans. He has taken a different approach to President Trump. I would advise Senator McConnell to do that.”
The South Carolina senator ended the spot with a piece of advice for the Senate Minority Leader. “I know Trump can be a handful,” he said. “But he is the most dominant figure in the Republican party, we don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of taking back the majority without Donald Trump.”
