Back in 2015, when the political world was much different, Lindsey Graham tweeted about how Donald Trump would eventually destroy the Republican party. And with Trump indicted on espionage charges, it looks like he was right.
Graham has changed a lot since he tweeted that message and he is now one of Trump's most ardent defenders. The South Carolina Senator had a meltdown on Sunday when George Stephanopoulos pushed back on his whataboutism.
The host asked his guest if he believed that Trump had done nothing wrong. "Well, here's what I believe," he responded, "We live in an America where if you're the Democratic candidate for president, Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, you can set up a private server in your basement to conduct government business."
After Stephanopoulos noted that he wasn't answering the question, Graham shot back, "No, let me finish," then followed, "Well, yeah, I'm trying to answer the question from a Republican point of view. That may not be acceptable on this show."
Near the close of the interview, Graham complained, "Whether you like Trump or not, he did not commit espionage. He is not a spy. He's overcharged. Did he do things wrong? Yes, he may have. He will be tried about that. But Hillary Clinton wasn't."
