During a recent speech in Salt Lake City, Clarence Thomas talked about the importance of the Supreme Court being seen as non-partisan. “You can cavalierly talk about doing this or doing that. At some point the institution is going to be compromised,” the Justice said. “By doing this, you continue to chip away at the respect of the institutions that the next generation is going to need if they’re going to have civil society.”Of course, the statements are kind of rich considering the source. Thomas’ wife Ginni is a right-wing activist who sent Mark Meadows texts about overturning the 2020 election. And a photo recently surfaced of Thomas posing with Republican senate candidate Herschel Walker. Lawrence O’Donnell focused on that photo during his Monday night show.
O’Donnell began, “it is time to call Clarence Thomas what he is; a politician. And as a Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas is now very, very much out of control. Here’s Clarence Thomas posing at the Supreme Court with a Republican senate candidate who believes that Donald Trump won the last presidential election.”
The MSNBC host continued, “Remember one Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren was running for Senate for the first time? And she went to the supreme court for a campaign photo-op with Ruth Bader Ginsberg? No, you don’t remember that because that never happened, and never could happen.”
