Throughout the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, accused of murdering two men at a Black Lives Matter protest, Judge Bruce Schroeder has been criticized not only by media, but by viewers who’ve seen clips from the live video feeds of the trial. Many have complained that he seemed biased, such as when he had the jury applaud a witness for the defense. Now he says that the coverage of the trial has impacted his view of allowing recording of a trial, and that he’ll consider forbidding it in the future.

The clip below is from the court where Judge Bruce Schroeder has been presiding over Rittenhouse’s trial. His neutrality in the case has been questioned, from the moment he banned the prosecution from using the word ‘victim’ in their opening statements in a pre-trial ruling. Not only has his perceived coddling of the accused made headlines, but he’s also the subject of an endless stream of memes and jokes, ranging from suggestions that he wants to adopt the now-adult Rittenhouse, to photoshopped images of the two hugging.

Now the jury is working on a verdict, and Schroeder says that in the future, he’ll consider not allowing live access to a trial, because of the reporting in this case. Though Rittenhouse is facing murder charges, Judge Schroeder has already dismissed the illegal weapons charge, and he has given the jury permission to settle on lesser charges rather than murder, if they find it appropriate to do so.
