[WATCH] Kinzinger Tells Stephen Colbert It Was ‘Essential’ for Hutchinson’s Safety to Hold Emergency Hearing

During an appearance on CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Wednesday night, Rep Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), a member of the January 6th House Select Committee and a frequent critic of his colleagues within the Republican Party, said surprise witness Cassidy Hutchinson was “showing far more courage than her boss, and showing far more courage than 99.8 percent of Republican members of Congress, or 100.”
Before her public testimony on Tuesday, Hutchinson, a former aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and a Special Assistant to Donald Trump, spoke to Select Committee investigators behind closed doors four times. Clips from those interviews were shown during her live testimony on Tuesday. The Committee had announced the public hearing only 24 hours before it was slated to begin, an unusual move for anything in Washington, especially after panel members said presentations would be on a break until after the July 4th holiday.

At the end of Hutchinson’s testimony, the Committee shared two texts she received that showed clear intimidation to influence her testimony, something the panel felt had now become a safety issue for Hutchinson.

Because of the increased threats, the panel decided to publicize more of Hutchinson’s testimony. Rep. Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on the Committee, explained to Stephen Colbert how they made the decision, as well as what the public can expect from the rest of the hearings.
