MAGA Republicans desperate to distract from Donald Trump's disastrous presidential campaign and mounting legal issues have been politicizing natural disasters by lying about the White House response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Trump has been lying about President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris not doing enough for states impacted by the hurricanes, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. He continues to perpetuate the false rumor that hurricane victims will only receive a total of $750, despite that being explained as well.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has continued to refuse demands to recall the House back from its pre-election recess to vote on increasing the FEMA aid package, saying it can wait until after the election, despite the obvious need for help.
The White House continues its efforts to keep Americans updated amidst the disinformation. President Biden delayed a trip overseas to remain in Washington, saying he just couldn't leave the country at such a time. A new Reddit account for the White House will provide information regarding relief efforts and other aid in the aftermath of the two hurricanes.
The President also gave an update on Thursday regarding Milton's impact on Florida thus far.
The lies from the right have grown so dangerous that Vice President Harris called into the Weather Channel on Wednesday ahead of Hurricane Milton's Florida landfall to discuss the FEMA response and how people impacted by the deadly storm will receive the aid they need.
"Anybody who considers themselves to be a leader should really be in the business right now of giving people a sense of confidence that we're all working together and that we have the resources and the ability to work together on their behalf, on behalf of the people of our country," Vice President Harris said. "That's what I'm focused on."
