Josh Hawley made a pretty wild claim during a Thursday night appearance on Fox News. The Missouri senator opined, “Democrats don’t accept elections that they don’t win.
Hawley, incidentally, is one of the worst possible people to make this argument. The Republican was one of the staunchest defenders of Donald Trump’s election lies. And he certainly helped the former president incite the insurrection on Jan. 6. That day, a now-famous photo of Hawley saluting the rioters storming the United States Capitol was taken.
On the first anniversary of the attack on the Capitol, the senator told Fox News, “The politics of fear that the Democratic Party has been pushing on this country for a whole year, it’s the only thing they have to offer the country. And what they’re trying to do with it is consolidate their power.”
Hawley continued, “It started last Jan. 6, and they have used that event to try and consolidate their power and try and push this fear politics. And this is going to be the year … where Americans reject fear.”
