WATCH: Josh Hawley “Fist Bumped Murderous Mob; Doesn’t Have Credibility” On SCOTUS Nominee, Explains Senator Durbin

Donald Trump, during his presidency, was able to place three nominees on the Supreme Court bench. Republicans still haven’t gotten over the scrutiny one of those nominees received in response to accusations of sexual assault, and that another received over her beliefs regarding women’s rights to control their own reproductive systems. Some even seem determined to take revenge through attacks on President Joe Biden’s nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Josh Hawley, in particular, has targeted Judge Jackson through a series of claims that she’s too easy on child sex offenders, citing cherry-picked cases in which she handed down a sentence with less than the maximum allowed, and carefully avoiding providing his followers with any other information about those cases.

Though it’s been addressed by fact-checkers, with CNN among them pointing out that Hawley falsely implied some questions to experts were actually being expressed as Jackson’s own opinion, and that the majority of her cases in the realm of sex offenses “followed the common judicial sentencing practices,” Republicans are still pushing this as an angle of attack.

Senator Dick Durbin, Chair of the Judiciary Committee, responded to this on This Week, telling George Stephanopoulos that aside from the fact that Hawley is flat-out wrong about the accusations he’s making, he also has no credibility anyway, after his support of the attempted coup last January.

“He’s wrong. He’s inaccurate and unfair in his analysis…Senator Hawley is making these charges that came out of nowhere…there’s no truth to what he’s said. And he’s part of a fringe within the Republican Party. This is the man who was fist-bumping the murderous mob that descended on the Capitol…he doesn’t have the credibility he thinks he does.”
