[WATCH] John Oliver’s Blistering SCOTUS Rant Targets Alito, Thomas, & ‘Justice Beer Pong’

John Oliver tackled the SCOTUS draft ruling leak on Sunday night’s “This Week Tonight” in an extended segment where he excoriated the Conservative justices for their imminent ruling to remove all federal protections for abortions. Oliver’s rant touched on the many layers of the current threat to Roe v. Wade, including the long game the Republicans have been playing since 1973 thanks to the Democrats’ inability and inaction on having it codified.
Even as Congressional Democrats hope to finally change that with a vote on Wednesday, Oliver details the vast history of the anti-abortion movement and just what women in America are facing should the Democrats fail.

After dragging Justice Alito for quoting a 17th-century lawyer who believed in witchcraft, Oliver knocked down every argument brought up by the anti-choice movement, including “Just go to a state where it’s legal and have a free-for-all,” as one Fox News commentator–A WOMAN, btw–said. “It’s not about whether you have the ‘right’ to go somewhere else, it’s about whether you have the resources and ability, and many may not because it will disproportionately affect those with disabilities, those who are transgender, immigrants or people of color,” Oliver said in rebuttal.
We’ll obviously be discussing the week’s big news on Sunday, but in the meantime, here’s our 2016 piece on abortion laws: https://t.co/iEKZMXPf8N

One highlight of the segment came after Oliver showed a clip of a young woman in Texas who had missed her period but couldn’t get an abortion because she was already six weeks and one day pregnant when she found out. Oliver noted there are a lot of reasons a woman might miss her period like being sick, over-exercising, a drastic change in diet, or just the major stress that comes with living in a country run “as a misogynistic theocracy run by five of the biggest weirdos in the country including Justice Beer Pong here,” he said pointing to a photo of Brett Kavanaugh. “And Justice My-Wife-Helped-Plan-A-Coup-And-All-I-Got-Was-No-Consequences-What-So-Ever,” he said, showing a photo of Clarence Thomas.
And abortion funds like The Brigid Alliance and the Lilith Fund and Yellowhammer Fund offer help for those who are struggling financially.
