Ron DeSantis' campaign for the Republican nomination has been an unmitigated disaster. The Florida Governor was once considered to be a real challenger to Donald Trump, but today, he trails in polls by as much as 50 or 60 points.
DeSantis has struggled to connect with voters as it seems like a challenge for him to act like a real person. He has also been accused of wearing boots with lifts in order to hide his height.
When the Trump campaign mocked the Florida Governor over the footwear, DeSantis's response wasn't exactly smooth. "I know Donald Trump and a lot of his people have been focusing on things like footwear. I'll tell ya this: if Donald Trump can summon the balls to show up to show up to the debate, I'll wear a boot on my head. This is the time for substance."
HBO host John Oliver was not at all impressed by DeSantis' comeback. In fact, he found it to be hilarious. He remarked:
"Ok, first, you can't claim it was a time for substance just after promising to wear a boot on your head, but second, you're so bad at this. Even if you weren't running against one of the world's greatest bullies, it looks so pathetic that you thought that was a good comeback. Never before has a politician had such 'kid with the rolling backpack wearing a tie to class' energy."
