Arizona Republican Senator John McCain couldn’t stop laughing during his Monday appearance on “The View,” and for good reason. When asked “Are you scared” of President Trump, the Senator completely lost his mind.
McCain stopped by the show to celebrate the birthday of his daughter, Meghan McCain, who is also a co-host.
McCain was specifically asked about President Trump’s recent threats against the Senator. “Are you scared?” co-host Sunny Hostin asked. McCain’s fit of laughter was joined by the entire studio audience and the rest of the TV show’s hosts.
“I mentioned that I had faced greater challenges,” McCain replied after the laughter settled.
McCain has been going increasingly on the offensive against Trump. Last Monday he gave a speech in which he attacked the “half-baked, spurious nationalism” that is “as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.” McCain didn’t name Trump directly but it was obvious who he was speaking about.
“We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil,” McCain said in his speech after receiving the Liberty Medal in Philadelphia.
“We are the custodians of those ideals at home, and their champion abroad. We have done great good in the world. That leadership has had its costs, but we have become incomparably powerful and wealthy as we did. We have a moral obligation to continue in our just cause, and we would bring more than shame on ourselves if we don’t. We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent. We wouldn’t deserve to.”
Only hours after Senator McCain gave that speech, Trump said: ”People have to be careful because at some point I fight back. I’m being very, very nice but at some point I fight back and it won’t be pretty.”
