WATCH: Joe Scarborough Tells The View Hosts That Trump Won’t Help McConnell Because He Doesn’t Care About the GOP

When the Republican party looks at Donald Trump, they see someone who just received the second most votes in electoral history. And if the party wants to be successful in the future, they are going to have to keep those voters engaged.

But Donald Trump has never really been considered a benevolent person. So while the Republicans may hope the 45th president would help promote GOP candidates, they may not get their wish. During a Wednesday appearance on The View, Joe Scarborough said Trump won’t help Mitch McConnell because he doesn’t care about the GOP.

Joy Behar asked how Trump may aid Georgia senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in their races. “Donald Trump’s not going to do anything for the senators running in Georgia,” the MSNBC host replied. “Donald Trump is worried about Donald Trump. He doesn’t care about the Republican Party, he’s never cared about the Republican Party.”

Scarborough continued:

“He’s never going to help anybody but Donald Trump, and what’s discouraging to me is no Republicans other than Mitt Romney have even tried to tell the truth about who Donald Trump is, and they’re so obsessed about their base that it never occurs to them that maybe they can move their base along with them some,” he said. “Look, Donald Trump said it himself, everybody — all these Republicans want across the country except for Donald Trump won. Obviously he’s not doing something right.”
