Democrats on the House Oversight Committee tore into the architects of Project 2025 on Thursday during what they called a "sham hearing" staged by the Republican-led Committee's chair, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) accused Comer of "waste, fraud, and abuse" after he scheduled a hearing showcasing the Heritage Foundation to allegedly distract from Donald Trump's disastrous debate performance against Vice President Kamala Harris last week.
"You know what, this hearing is actually the best example of what waste, fraud, and abuse looks like," Rep. Crockett said before questioning the witnesses, "because the only reason we're having this hearing is because somebody got their feelings hurt in a debate, and I don't understand why we're wasting taxpayer dollars."
Rep. Crockett asked witness Skye Perryman, the CEO of Democracy Forward, about Trump's connection to the controversial conservative plan to reshape the government.
"Is Trump's name ever mentioned in Project 2025, yes or no?" Rep. Crockett asked.
"Within the document itself, there are a number of references to the former administration," Perryman replied.
Well, if I told you that his name is mentioned approximately 312 times, would you have any reason to dispute that?" Crockett said.
"I don't have any reason to," Perryman replied.
Rep. Crockett then turned her attention to Carr, a commissioner at the Federal Communications Communication (FCC), who authored Project 2025’s manifesto for the FCC.
Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) questioned Mark Krikorian, the longtime director of the right-wing Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) and an adviser to Project 2025, and forced Krikorian to admit that he thinks Haiti would have been better off socioeconomically if slavery had continued for thirty more years.
