WATCH: January 6th Committee Expects To Have Secret Service Texts By Tuesday — Ahead Of Final Public Hearing Scheduled

The final scheduled hearing of the January 6th Committee is coming up, and before it takes place, the panel expects to have in hand what may be a crucial piece of evidence — text messages between Secret Service members, regarding the plans for and events of January 6th, 2021.

They’ve been receiving a lot of mixed messages over the existence of these messages, which the Committee has requested repeatedly for their investigation. In the past week, they’ve received a briefing from the Office of the Inspector General, after that office was informed that requested messages had been deleted, but have also been assured by the U.S. Secret Service that the messages are intact.

The panel finally moved from requesting to issuing a subpoena, and now Representative Zoe Lofgren says it’s expected that they’ll be in hand by Tuesday.

“…we thought fine, if you have them, we need them, and we expect to get them by this Tuesday. So, we’ll see…I was shocked to hear they didn’t back up their data before they reset their iPhones.”

It’s not clear how much of this information the public may see, either in the final scheduled hearing or some other form.

Lofgren also told This Week that she can’t be certain the panel’s investigation will be completed by midterms, particularly since Donald Trump’s allies have worked to delay it with frivolous litigation, and that she hopes the Department of Justice is progressing in its own investigation, regardless of how the House Select Committee’s work goes.
