WATCH: Jake Tapper Explains Why He Banned Kayleigh McEnany From His Show
Donald Trump’s Press Secretaries have each been one of a kind. Sean Spicer set to tone with his unabashed willingness to lie. Sarah Huckabee Sanders was combative even in situations that didn’t call for tension. And Stephanie Gresham went nearly a year without holding a presser.
But no one has combined combativeness and a willingness to lie quite like Kayleigh McEnany. Prior to working for Trump, the press secretary had worked as a correspondent on CNN. But she’s not welcome back there. During a Sunday show, Jake Tapper explained why.
The anchor began, “There are some people that are just so mendacious, I just wouldn’t put them on air. Kayleigh McEnany, I never booked her. Jason Miller from the Trump campaign, I would never book him.”
Tapper continued, “I mean, these are people who just — they just tell lies the way that, you know, most people breathe. There was no value in that.”
The CNN host closed his comments, “There is a risk in just lumping everybody together. There’s a big difference between somebody like Kayleigh McEnany, who just like, this is what she does, she tells lies all the time. She can’t acknowledge reality. So I’m just not going to put somebody like that on air.”
