Herschel Walker is the GOP nominee to represent the state of Georgia in the United States Senate. He thinks that he has a solution to mass shootings, and it’s not gun control.

Speaking on Fox News after the latest massacre of schoolchildren, which took place in Uvalde, Texas, Walker referenced the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, and suggesting that instead of the Biden Administration creating a department to observe and advise on the spread of disinformation on social media, he’d prefer having someone appointed to ” look at young men that’s looking at women that’s looking at social media.”

“But they wanna just continue talking about taking away your Constitutional rights,” Walker said, seeming to reference suggestions by the Biden Administration and Democrats that it might be time to consider whether some measures could be in order to control access to deadly weapons.
“This has been happening for years,” he continued, “And the way to stop it is by putting more money into the mental health field. By putting money into, ah, another department, instead of a department that wants to take away your rights.”
Notably, his opponent for the Senate seat, incumbent Reverend Raphael Warnock, introduced legislation earlier this year declaring the Senate’s recognition that funding for mental health care must be a priority.
As far as right-wing support for mental health care, however, in Walker’s own state of Georgia, NPR reports that legislation expanding access to mental health care was sidelined and because Republicans spread disinformation about the legislation, linking it to transgender rights among other issues.
