WATCH: Hecklers Serenade Matt Gaetz With “She Was Just 17” At GOP Event

Matt Gaetz has been facing allegations that range from mere sexual impropriety to sex trafficking, and he’s not being allowed to sweep it under the proverbial rug. At an event this week, he tried to dismiss it as fake, and was immediately treated to a serenade from audience members who broke into the Beatles song “I Saw Her Standing There” — which opens with the lyric, “She was just 17.”

Gaetz is specifically a subject of an investigation regarding the sex trafficking of a 17-year-old girl. His friend and former associate, Joel Greenberg, has already pled guilty and agreed to cooperate with law enforcement, and says that other men were involved. Though the names haven’t been released publicly, the implication is that, in his cooperation, Greenberg has already handed them over to prosecutors.

In a video originally posted to TikTok, a couple of hecklers appear at an event where Gaetz is speaking and wait for him to bring up the allegations himself.

“…those crazy false sex scandal allegations!” Gaetz can be heard saying, before song breaks out in the audience. After singing a few lines beginning with “She was just 17,” his detractors shout, “Matt Gaetz for prison, 2021!”

Gaetz has denied the allegations, though he also appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show shortly after they surfaced, where he defended paying for hotel rooms for “people that you’re dating who are of legal age.” While 17 is over the age of consent in most states, transporting a minor across state lines for the purposes of sex, and paying her for sexual favors is not legal.

Gaetz also went on to release additional allegations that had not been made public yet, assuring the audience that there are no photos of him with child prostitutes. Though this specific allegation has not been made publicly, Greenberg has asserted that he and other (not publicly named) men did pay for sex with an underage teenager.

Gaetz has not at this point been officially charged with a crime, and, as previously stated, denies all allegations.
