(WATCH) GOP Rep Tells Democrat To ‘Shut Up’ During ACA Debate, Backlash Ensues
Once again, millions of Americans find themselves poised to lose their healthcare as Republicans renew their efforts to completely gut the ACA without a replacement. One Republican lawmaker is facing backlash over remarks he made to a democratic colleague.
Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) is drawing criticism from his fellow committee members after telling a Democratic colleague to “shut up” during a passionate debate on the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The exchange occurred after Mullin remarked at a meeting that employees at his plumbing company told him their coverage under Obamacare “sucks.” Mullin, after asking New Mexico Rep. Lujan (D-NM) to offer up a bipartisan alternative, then aggressively interrupted him after the Democratic Rep asked he be afforded speaking time. Mullin reportedly told Lujan “shut up now.”

You can hear several committee members objecting to Mullin’s attack and, according to the the Oklahoman, Mullen was asked to retract some of his language from the Congressional record after several members reportedly complained of it violating decorum.
Mullin, although agreeing to retract “sucks” from the record after facing much criticism, said that he wouldn’t apologize for telling his colleague to “shut up” because he felt that “he kept trying to talk over me,” according to The Oklahoman.
