WATCH: GOP Rep Says January 6th Hearing Is Distraction From Important Issues Like Shrinking Tortillas

Can the average American voter walk and chew gum at the same time? It doesn’t seem as though our elected representatives think so. In fact, they’re arguing that the hearings coming up to address an attack on democracy are a distraction from grocery prices — although there are plenty of Americans concerned about both, and despite the fact that he, like any elected official, could certainly sponsor legislation regarding matters that are important to his constituents.

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) is among the many Republicans who are unhappy that the January 6th Committee is moving forward with their investigation of the attack on U.S. Democracy, carried out by fans of Donald Trump who wanted him to stay in office after losing the 2020 election.
However, he may be the first to announce that corn tortillas are more important to the average American than preventing another attack, or seeking justice for the one carried out last year.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) argues the January 6th hearings are a distraction:
“That pack of tortillas that I just bought … they used to look like the regular corn tortillas. Now they look like mini tortillas … That’s what Americans are talking about.” pic.twitter.com/ACl5dFXrsY

“They used to look like regular corn tortillas and now they look like mini tortillas. The same price! The same packaging~ They don’t want you talking about that!”
“Shrinkflation,” as it is called, is undoubtedly a problem for Americans, and if Representative Biggs has a suggestion for addressing grocery prices, there are many hours in the Congressional day to address it, and his constituents would likely thank him for doing so.
However, the January 6th Committee has indicated that they have evidence that the mob storming the Capitol Building was not spontaneous, and that they can tie it to other plots by the former president and his cronies to illegally subvert a free and fair election — and that’s pretty important to the country too.
