WATCH: GOP Mayor John Giles Speaks at Republicans for Harris Event

John Giles, who made waves last week by announcing that he was backing Kamala Harris, doubled down on his support for the Democrat today.

Giles is not only a GOP mayor, he is a Republican mayor of a large city in Mesa, Arizona. Like those in the McCain family, he has decided that he cannot support Donald Trump and his candidacy. Last week, he became one of the most prominent Republican elected officials to come out in support of Kamala Harris.

Today, Giles announced that he is now the co-chair of the Arizona Republicans for Harris. The Mesa mayor told reporters:

"I think the time has come for us as Arizona Republicans to admit the obvious and to start saying the quiet part out loud. Our party's nominee is not qualified for office and... we need to vote for the adult in the room, and that is Kamala Harris."

Last week, Giles penned an op-ed in support of Harris where he wrote in part:

"Trump poses a serious threat to our nation. We can’t have a felon representing us on the national stage, let alone one who would threaten to abandon NATO and ruin our standing abroad. We are in a moment that only happens once every few generations, when we have to defend democracy, and stand up for the right to vote and our civil rights.
