Most Vice Presidents get the opportunity at some point to run for President themselves. Mike Pence, though, was Donald Trump’s VP. And Trump is going to hold onto his power for as long as possible.
Still, Pence seems to be hinting at a run in 2024. Its fair to wonder why he thinks he could win. Trump Republicans hate him and his radical religious agenda means that he won’t crossover to Independent or Democratic voters. That is not stopping him, though. During a Tuesday speech Pence gleefully talked about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
The former Vice President told the Young America Foundation, “So where we begin with the Freedom Agenda is a very simple commitment to secure the sanctity of life at the center of American law once again! I stand before you today with a grateful heart that after nearly 50 years of lives of incalculable value lost to our nation, 50 years of heartbreak, 50 years of praying and fasting and working and volunteering and caring.”
Pence continued, “Last month at long last with the support of three Supreme Court justices appointed during the Trump-Pence administration, we sent Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history where it belongs.”
