Once thought of as the future of the Republican party, Ron DeSantis has been moving backward over the past year. While he is seeking the Republican nomination for President, he took time out to debate Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California.
The Florida Governor had an advantage as the event was moderated by far-right cable news host Tucker Carlson. Still, Newsom was able to land some pretty cutting remarks.
At one point, DeSantis was asked about Joe Biden's age. He responded, "Yes, he is in decline. Yes, it is a danger to the country. He has no business running for president. And Gavin Newsom agrees with that. He won't say that. That is why he is running his shadow campaign. He should not be running. He is not up to the job. And it is dangerous for this country."
Newsom shot back, "I will take Joe Biden at 100 versus Ron DeSantis any day of the week at any age."
Later in the debate, Newsom addressed DeSantis directly, saying, "You're trolling folks and trying to find migrants to play political games, to try to get some news and attention, so you can out-trump Trump. And by the way, how's that going for you, Ron? You're down 41 points in your own home state."
