After the January 6th insurrection, Lindsey Graham claimed that he was done with Donald Trump. That statement has proven to be hilariously false. Graham was at Mar-a-Lago golfing with Trump just days after he made that claim.Since then the South Carolina has gushingly talked about the former president and his importance to the party. He even threatened Mitch McConnell this week, saying he wouldn’t support the Kentucky senator as leader if he didn’t have a working relationship with Trump. During an appearance on MSNBC Saturday, former Trump staffer Shermichael Singleton said Graham’s actions are hurting the party.
The former HUD Chief of Staff told Alex Witt:
“I have to disagree with Senator Graham. I think the expectation is for a Senate majority leader or minority leader is to be able to lead your caucus legislatively. To be able to prioritize the things that are of interest to the party but also to the states that these Senators represent from a policy perspective but also electorally.”
Singleton continued, “You cannot have this type of blind loyalty to one individual. I think Lindsey Graham making that statement puts the party in a dangerous predicament where we don’t necessarily care about the ideology of being a conservative more than we care about the personality of an individual — that’s dangerous.”
