WATCH: Former Congresswoman Explains How She Was Betrayed by Matt Gaetz
Katie Hill, a former Democratic Rep. from California once formed an unusual friendship with Matt Gaetz but now she says she feels betrayed by the Florida congresswoman.
At one point, Katie Hill and Matt Gaetz were two of the younger members of the House of Representatives. Despite the political differences, they became friends. And when Hill encountered a sex scandal of her own, Gaetz was the only Republican who spoke out on Hill’s behalf.
The Florida congressman tweeted in defense of Hill, “Who among us would look perfect if every ex leaked every photo/text? Katie isn’t being investigated by Ethics or maligned because she hurt anyone — it is because she is different.”
Hill, though, has not defended Gaetz against allegations of sexual misconduct. In fact, she has said that if the charges are true, Gaetz needs to resign. She explained her reasoning to Chris Hayes on Thursday night.
The California Democrat told the MSNBC host, “When it really mattered, when I was feeling particularly abandoned by the people within my own party, and when I felt just betrayed and alone and disgusted and … disgusted with myself, it matters a lot that somebody stands up for you.”
Hill, however, continued, “I feel betrayed by him. And I have to wonder about his motivations for defending me in the first place.”
