WATCH: Flustered Ron Johnson Denies Knowledge, Support, Of Fake Elector Slate Delivery Plan

Texts linked to Senator Ron Johnson were shown at the latest public hearing of the January 6th Committee, revealing an apparent plan for the Senator to deliver slates of fake electoral votes to the Vice President on January 6th, 2021. Johnson is denying any knowledge of the plot, and his purported role in it.

Answering a series of questions reported by CNN, Johnson gave rather contradictory responses, beginning with “I was aware we got this package and someone wanted us to deliver it so we reached out [to Pence’s staff],” and continuing through, “This was a staff to staff exchange and I was basically unaware of it,” to “I had no knowledge of this!”

Johnson also says that his staff reached out to Pence’s office to “ask if he wanted it,” which doesn’t accurately reflect what the text messages show.

Instead, in the texts, Johnson’s Chief of Staff, Sean Riley, poses it as something Johnson ‘needed to’ do:

“Johnson needs to hand something to VPOTUS please advise.”

He also posits this as though it’s just a normal procedural effort — they weren’t received, so Johnson needs to deliver them:

“Alternative slate of electors for [Michigan] and [Wisconsin] because the archivist didn’t receive them”

Pressed on whether he’d have aides identify the person who delivered the package, Johnson says he would not.

He declares the whole thing to be a “complete non-story,” insisting that it’s no big deal, but seems to belie that with his repeated disavowel — “I was not involved in this at all…why don’t you just leave me alone?”
