The Omicron surge could, experts say, be a turning point in the pandemic. Though the variant is surging, and difficult weeks are still ahead, if the virus doesn’t take another more-deadly mutation, this could be the point when immunity also surges, moving the health crisis to a more manageable level worldwide.

In Georgia, the Fulton County D.A. has gotten permission to seat a special grand jury who can compel testimony from potential witnesses who have so far refused to cooperate with the investigation into election interference. This includes the phone call in which Donald Trump told Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to flip the state’s election outcome in his favor; a further phone call from Lindsey Graham to Raffensperger; and other incidents that together may constitute a ‘coordinated effort’ to interfere in the election.

U.S. Special Envoy on Climate Change John Kerry is urging a global increase in efforts to meet climate goals, saying that we’re currently “not on a good track” and that if there isn’t a reduction in fossil fuel use by the end of this decade, the outlook is grim.
