Vice President Kamala Harris appeared at a Univision Town Hall from Las Vegas on Thursday night to speak directly with Latino voters about immigration, healthcare, and the truth regarding the White House response to the recent hurricanes which have been politicized by MAGA Republicans.
The Vice President is currently leading Donald Trump by 56% in Nevada and 57 % in Arizona, where she held an energetic and packed rally in Phoenix--despite the 105-degree heat--just hours before heading to Vegas.
The Town Hall audience was comprised of 100 Latino voters--some of whom had been flown in by Univision from other battleground states such as Arizona and Wisconsin. Fresh from a the Vice President answered roughly a dozen questions, many of them in Spanish.
VP Harris said she would sign the bipartisan border security bill that would increase border agents which Republicans voted against to appease Donald Trump. She also advocated for comprehension immigration reform and finding a pathway to citizenship for undocumented individuals who were brought to the U.S. as children – known as “Dreamers,” based on legislation called the DREAM Act, which never passed Congress.
There were several emotional moments during the Town Hall, most of them connected to healthcare. The Vice President responded with empathy and spoke about dignity as a part of overall care, and was able to explain current policies and how she plans to improve upon them.
The biggest viral moment of the night came from a young woman who couldn't hold back her tears when speaking of the difficulties her parents had faced.
The Vice President also reached out to her once the broadcast had ended.
But there were lighter moments as well, like when the Vice President failed to find anything nice to say about Donald Trump.
