WATCH: Dr. Jill Biden Reacts to Attack on Her Doctorate
In just over a month, grace, charm, humor, class and intelligence will once again occupy the White House in the persons of President-elect Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden. Those characteristics were on full display Thursday night as they sat down for an interview with CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.
Straight away the late night host asked her thoughts on being “historic because you will be the first First Lady with a full-time paying job.” Dr. Biden plans on continuing in her position as a professor at Northern Virginia Community College after the Jan. 20 inauguration.
“It’s hard for me to think of it in historic terms because I taught all eight years I was Second Lady,” she said, adding that she also plans to continue working on the social causes she pursued while her husband was vice president.
Colbert then asked her reaction to the dismissive, misogynistic Wall Street Journal op-ed that mocked the future first lady for using the honorific “doctor” in her name. In that piece a former college professor who himself has never earned a Ph.D. wrote, “Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden—Jill—kiddo: a bit of advice on what may seem like a small but I think is a not unimportant matter. Any chance you might drop the ‘Dr.’ before your name? ‘Dr. Jill Biden’ sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic.”
Refreshingly, both Bidens essentially laughed off the attack as inconsequential and unwarranted.
