On January 6th 2021, those around Donald Trump urged him to release a statement asking the mob to leave the Capitol. It took hours before he could be convinced to do so, and even then he praised the people involved. Now there is testimony that Trump refused to act specifically because he believed his Vice President, Mike Pence, deserved the pressure and threats.

Cassidy Hutchinson, former aide to Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, testified on Tuesday. With regard to efforts by White House counsel Pat Cipollone to get Trump to make a statement, she described an incident she witnessed.
She says that Cipillone ran — barreled — to Meadows’ office, asking him to help convince Trump to do something to put an end to the chaos and violence. Meadows, she says, responded, “[Trump] doesn’t want to do anything, Pat.”

Cipollone, she says, convinced Meadows to join him, warning that people would die and “blood will be on your hands” if the Chief of Staff didn’t help address Trump.
In additional testimony, Hutchinson described Meadows and Cipollone returning, discussing the president’s refusal to act.
She quotes Cipollone as saying that something more had to be done, because were are threats being made to the life of the vice president.
Mark Meadows reportedly responded to the effect of, “You heard him, Pat. He thinks Mike deserves it. He doesn’t think they’re doing anything wrong.”
As the hearing continued, Hutchinson also shared that discussions the next day further indicated that Trump still didn’t think anyone had been in the wrong on January 6th except Mike Pence.
